Building Your Custom Skin Care Regimen: A 5-Part Series

Happy New Year! One of my favorite things to do in the New Year is touch base with my clients on their skin care regimen. Your skin is unique and your skin care should be, too. This series will empower you with tools to tailor your regimen and achieve radiant, healthy skin. I want to identify any gaps in your home care routine and see if there are any changes we need to make. As an esthetician that’s been practicing in the Austin market for over 15 years, I have a LOT of clients that I’ve been seeing for over a decade and one of my favorite pieces of advice is…

“If you’re using the same products for the past 10 years, chances are you need a refresh.”

That’s NOT because products stop working the longer you use them. That’s a skincare MYTH I’m here to bust. It’s because your SKIN isn’t the same as it was 10 years ago. Simply put, you're not battling the same concerns.

By the time we reach adulthood we are losing 1% of our collagen annually and women lose 30% of our collagen in the five years following menopause.* On top of that we have external factors that are behavior-driven that can accelerate that process: if you spend a lot of time in the sun, drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes. All of these accelerate collagen degradation. Even where you live can contribute: Do you live in a metropolitan area with high levels of smog and pollution? Do you live in the mountains at a high elevation, closer to the sun and with extremely cold temperatures? Or on a beach or in the desert, where it can be dry and very windy?

This year I’m introducing a NEW Series here on the Blog: “Building Your Custom Skin Care Regimen: A 5-Part Series”. Whether you’re a skin care minimalist or have a 10-step regimen I know you’ll gain some great skinspiration.

The “Custom Skin Care Regimen Pyramid”

Over the next few weeks we’re breaking down the essentials of a custom skincare regimen. Whether you’re a minimalist or a skincare enthusiast, this series will help you uncover what your skin truly needs. Here’s what you have to look forward to:

  • Part 1: “Back to Basics: Cleansers & Moisturizers for Healthy, Balanced Skin.”

  • Part 2: “Protect & Nourish: The Power of Sun Protection & Antioxidants.”

  • Part 3: “Hydrated Skin for a Youthful Glow: Hyaluronic Acid & Hydrating Mists.”

  • Part 4: “Game-Changing Corrective Products: Exfoliants, Retinoids, Peptides & More.”

  • Part 5: “Finishing Touches: Pamper Your Eyes, Lips & Body.”

Stay tuned for Part 1: “Back to Basics: Cleansers & Moisturizers for Healthy, Balanced Skin.”

Funnily enough, I used to skip this step and just jump right into the second layer, but I have realized that I’m doing a complete disservice to my clients by not going over the very foundation of everyone’s skin care regimen. I think we can all agree that in the very SIMPLEST of routines we should all be CLEANSING & MOISTURIZING our skin. Or can we? In the next post we’ll be answering questions like:

  • How many cleansers do I need in my skin care regimen?

  • What is double cleansing? When and why do I need to do it?

  • Why do I need to wash my face in the morning?

  • Why do we need to use a moisturizer?

  • What should I be looking for in a moisturizer?

We’ll also be delivering tips on effectively washing and moisturizing your face, hot takes on facial cleansers and moisturizers and debunking some skin care myths on these two FUNDAMENTAL steps in your skin care routine.

Be sure you’re subscribed to our email list to be the first to know when Part 1 drops!
