On September 21, 2024 I will be riding in the Mamma Jamma Ride. This ride raises funds for the Big Pink Bus that helps provide breast cancer screenings to rural, underserved and uninsured communities in Texas. Early detection saves lives! The Big Pink Bus provides access to the latest screening technology for our neighbors who need it most. Every person should have access to life-saving breast cancer screenings. The Big Pink Bus helps by not only providing them to people regardless of their ability to pay but by literally bringing mobile mammography services to communities where screening options don’t exist.

My Personal Story…

Hi, I’m Trisha. I’m a licensed esthetician and laser hair removal professional in Austin, Texas. I’m the owner and operater of Bene Skin and Laser. We’re an award-winning med spa in Central Austin. We’re located near the North Loop, Brentwood and Hyde Park neighborhoods.

I am also a breast cancer survivor, having celebrated 13 years this past February. Thirty one years old, with NO family history when I was diagnosed. I’ll never forget the day I went in for my own breast cancer screenings- yes, plural! My screenings included both mammography and ultra sound. Though I had something concerning me that prompted the screening (shout out to Renaissance Women’s Group and Dr. Sherry Neyman’s office for taking my concern seriously!), I never suspected that I had cancer. I often joke that if I HAD suspected that, I would have been like an ostrich with its head in the sand.

Obviously, this event hits close to home, but not only because of my personal history with this disease. It’s also because this ride takes place in Taylor. Taylor is a small town about 30 miles northeast of Austin and for those that don’t know, it’s the place I’ve called home for the past seven years.

My FOURTH Year Riding…

I’m proud to have participated in this ride every year since they moved it from Austin to Taylor and this year will be my FOURTH year riding. I’ve also managed to be a top fundraiser every year! That’s thanks to so many of my generous family, friends and clients that donate to this wonderful and worthy cause.

I plan on riding 25 miles and I’m feeling pretty good about it! 2024 has been the year that I have come back to focusing on my health after the pandemic and starting a new business during said pandemic took it’s toll on both my physical AND mental health. I’ve been moving my body consistently all year and I’m in the best shape I’ve been in since pre-pandemic times. I actually rode 26 miles with my husband, Jay yesterday!

Early detection saves lives. Living in a small, rural community like Taylor has truly opened my eyes to how important this cause is. Support breast screenings for people that live in areas where they don’t exist and often don’t have transportation options to get to these appointments in the closest city that offers them.

We Can’t Do It Without YOU!

This year has been hard on all of us. I know many of us have been touched by economic hardship from inflation, job layoffs and other extenuating circumstances. We’re feeling it, too at Bene. For those that are able, I would greatly appreciate it if you could donate to my page and help support this necessary cause. No donation is too small. While I’m uncertain if I’ll make it to “Big Wig” status this year as a fundraiser, I know that every dollar raised supports this essential cause that is so important to me.

Thank you for reading my story and for your support.

Trisha
